Nothing beats a soft, beautifully braided loaf of challah. Eaten plain, with honey butter, jam or sliced the next day and whipped into french toast – you can’t go wrong with this versatile and tasty bread. When you mix up a batch of this bread and bake it in your own oven, you won’t believe how much better it tastes than its store-bought counter parts.
This recipe makes a soft dough that is also easy to work with. Be careful not to incorporate too much extra flour during the rolling process to keep the finished loaves tender and soft. Full recipe and instructions for braiding a 6-strand loaf is included. This method of braiding will create a loaf that is beautiful when baked and also a bit taller for sandwiches or french toast.
You can use this challah recipe as a base for flavored loaves as well!
